Who can use owner verification

Owner verification on YouTubeFreeToolkit is only for the person who manages the channel you entered in the monetization checker.

  • Creators checking their own @handle before or after applying to YPP.
  • Managers signing in with the Google account that owns the channel (Brand Account managers must use the correct linked identity).

It is not for:

  • Viewers researching competitors (signing in with your personal Gmail will not reveal their monetization).
  • Agencies unless they are authenticating as the channel owner for that one verification request.

If you need sponsor due diligence on someone else’s channel, read how brands verify creators instead.

What OAuth verification proves

Public monetization checkers infer likelihood from subscribers and views. Owner verification uses official Google APIs after you consent:

1. We confirm the signed-in Google account owns the channel ID you looked up. 2. We confirm routine YouTube Analytics access works for that account. 3. We request a read-only monetary metrics report documented for Partner Program analytics.

A successful monetary report is displayed as owner-verified monetization access. If Analytics works but monetary metrics return the documented forbidden response, we report that as not verified for monetary access — a pattern YouTube documents for many non-monetized channels.

This is stronger than guessing from ads or page source, but it still is not a replacement for every message in YouTube Studio → Earn (limited ads, holds, and appeals appear there first).

Compare with inferred vs official checks.

Google scopes we request

During Google’s consent screen you approve read-only access:

| Scope | Purpose | | --- | --- | | youtube.readonly | List channels owned by the signed-in account and match your target channel ID | | yt-analytics-monetary.readonly | Request monetary analytics metrics (such as estimated revenue fields) for the owner’s channel |

We do not request scopes to upload videos, edit metadata, delete content, or manage comments. We do not ask for your Google password — authentication happens entirely on Google’s pages.

Step-by-step flow

1. Open the monetization checker and run a lookup on your channel URL or @handle. 2. Scroll to Channel owners only and click Verify Exact Monetization Status. 3. Google shows the consent screen — review scopes and choose the correct account. 4. After approval, you return to our site with a short-lived result cookie. 5. Read the owner verification banner: monetized, not monetized, channel mismatch, or error.

Channel mismatch means the Google account you used does not own the channel you searched. Sign out of Google or pick the owner account and try again.

Verification expires after a few minutes; rerun the flow if the result cookie ages out.

Understanding results

| Status | Typical meaning | | --- | --- | | Monetized — owner verified | Monetary Analytics metrics were returned for your channel — consistent with YPP-style revenue reporting access | | Not monetized — owner verified | Owner confirmed, but monetary metrics were not available as expected for non-partner channels | | Wrong Google account | OAuth account does not own the searched channel ID | | Error / cancelled | Consent denied, misconfiguration, or expired session — no channel data accessed |

Edge cases exist: channels in review, limited ads, or policy flags may still show complex states inside Studio even when APIs respond. When in doubt, trust Studio and AdSense emails over any third-party UI.

Privacy and token handling

Our approach:

  • No Google password collection on YouTubeFreeToolkit.
  • OAuth access tokens are used to complete the verification HTTP request and are not intentionally stored in our application database.
  • Results are passed back via a signed, HTTP-only cookie with a short TTL (on the order of minutes).
  • State/nonce cookies protect the OAuth round trip from tampering.

Read our Privacy Policy and Compliance pages for hosting logs and optional verification wording. You can revoke app access anytime in your Google Account permissions.

If you operate this site (deployment)

Self-hosters need a Google Cloud OAuth Web client with redirect URI:

https://youtubefreetoolkit.com/api/youtube/monetization/callback

Environment variables (see .env.example):

  • GOOGLE_OAUTH_CLIENT_ID
  • GOOGLE_OAUTH_CLIENT_SECRET
  • GOOGLE_OAUTH_REDIRECT_URI
  • YOUTUBE_OAUTH_STATE_SECRET

Enable YouTube Data API v3 and YouTube Analytics API. Configure the OAuth consent screen with your privacy and terms URLs. Google may require app verification before broad public use of YouTube scopes.

When OAuth is worth it

  • You applied to YPP and want a technical signal that monetary Analytics opened.
  • You are documenting compliance for your own channel — not investigating strangers.

For everyone else, public stats plus Studio remain the right tools.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I verify my client’s channel as an agency?▼

Only if you sign in with the Google identity that owns or properly manages that channel in YouTube. Otherwise use client-provided Studio exports under contract.

Does verification store my YouTube revenue on your servers?▼

We do not intentionally persist OAuth tokens in our app database. A short-lived signed cookie returns the verification status to your browser. Server access logs may exist per our privacy policy.

Why does verification fail on localhost?▼

Owner verification requires production OAuth client settings and matching redirect URIs. Use the deployed site or configure a dev OAuth client with localhost callback if you are developing the project.
